Question:

How would one translate the name, "Feige" into English?

When my Grandmother first came to the USA as a little girl in 1906 from Brestlit, Russia, she was processed through at Ellis Island. Officals there changed her original first name (which is now unknown) to "Fay" or "Fannie". I have reason to believe that her original name MAY have been "Feige". Does anyone know if it is reasonable to assume that the name "Feige" was changed into "Fay" or "Fannie"? Is the name "Feige" a Yiddish name? What does it mean in English? Thanks for your help!
