Where is the name Caramaletis from?

In doing some family research, I've found out that my great-great grandmother's first husband was George Caramaletis. She was from the Mumbles in South-Wales but I'd love to know where he was from / the name origin as the it's obviously not Welsh. Any ideas anyone?
NB. He does not appear on any Welsh /English census and his death is not recorded in any UK documents that I can locate, and I've looked at quite a few! He just turns up in the marriage records and she had the surname when she married my great-great grandfather.
