However, many surnames from other parts of the world were anglicised on entry to north America, so it's by no means certain - it may have come from somwehere else entirely (Gold- is quite a common Jewish root, too). Depends where you can trace your family history back to. It does look like there were Goldings in Gloucester, England, in the 19th century, implying it is a British name. |
