Anyone know the origins of the surname Cardona?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It seems to be a very very popular name in the Mediterranean, including Minorca, Spain, and especially in Italy. I put my money on that you could attribute Spain to it, because large amounts of Cardonas appear in what used to be Spanish lands (Mexico down to Bolivia). It looks like the Cardona name was well spread in shipping and naval trade, as the records were simultaneous and in very different locations.
