Question:

The mysterious "George Washington Duffey" - No details known.?

Alright, I've been into genealogy for about five years now. Here's the brick wall I've hit.

George Washington Duffie/Duffey/Duffe
Had at least one child (born in 1840), William Duffie (lived in KY early in life, then moved to Alabama, Died in Coulterville 1923)
At some point, he probably lived in the area around Cincinatti, but on the Kentucky side.
Married "Margaret Starkey" ... Margaret may have gone by a different first name, as common with Margarets.
His parents probably came from Ireland, but George was most likely born in the USA, as his name suggests.
And no, I have no clue what the last name's spelling was. His son was listed as "William Duffe" once but that was only in one record. We have a bit of lore that William changed his name spelling to Duffie after a gunfight in Kentucky (which made him to move to AL), so we think that George's name would not be spelled Duffie if the story was true. No clue if it is true.

Can anyone find any details about George or family?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I do a LOT of genealogy and this name is on my database. The name George Washington Duffie/Duffey/Duffe is listed in the death certificates of Plattsburg, Kentucky stating that he was executed after being found guilty of mopery. I didn't even know what mopery was but I learned later it means he was found guilty of exposing his genitals to an animal he didn't own.

Sorry, but that's all I have.
