Looking for my father's family. Grandma (Akers), lived in Pompt Lks when I was small. Married a Wm.George.

Father's name was Samuel, but went under the name of Jack. Married Louise Overmere (both deceased). They lived in Passaic, NJ after my brother John (Jackie) was born. Mother and inlaws didn't get along so us kids had no connections with father's side. Unfortunately, I never knew my grandma's name. Grandpa Akers died in the 1930's (so I was told).

Family Search site has 296 Akers entries. This is a great resoruce to get clues, you may not be able to trust all the data there, but much of it is directly extracted from good sources.

You should get your fathers Birth Certificate. It will give Grandma's First, and Maiden name, where she was born, etc. You can get that from him, or get it online. You need to do most of this work for yourself. Provided below are Vital Record sites, go to the sites. Read how to get the records, and start at the Town level first, as State records are more expensive.

Start with Your records, and living relatives. Work backwards with Birth, Death and Marriage certificates. Get Obits, cemetary records, wills, probate. This will help you find the hidden past.
