Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Hello Liam, I found your family tree for the Gascoyne's on Ancestry so guess that you have found the family on the 1891 and 1901 census. Did a census search myself for the family, and found the following, hope it helps - 1881 - transcribed as Gascoign Kempston, Bedfordshire - Dist 14 Joseph Gascoign - head - m - 36 - Wheelwright - Stoney Stratford, Bucks Mary A - wife - 24 - Lacemaker - Kempston Beds Thomas - son - 8 - Sch - Kempston, Beds George - son - 7 - Kempston Beds Charles - son - 5 - Kempston Beds Mary - dau - 3 - Kempston Beds William - son - 1 - Kempston Beds As you can see the age is slightly out, could be a mistranscribe from the original census form, as he could have put down age as 30. 1871 - (surname written as below) Kempston Beds, Dist 14 (page 14) High Street Joseph Gascoigne - boarder - 21 - Wheelwright - Goldington Bucks Living in household of what looks like Titus Cherry age 46 - Victualler and Wheelwright - born Beds This is the nearest I could find for 1871. 1861 Stony Stratford, St Mary Magdalen, Bucks - Dist 14 (page22) Alley (household Sched 10) Mary Gascoyne - head - widow - 52 - Lacemaker - Stony Stratford, Bucks Henry - son - 24 - Labourer - Stony Stratford Bucks Joseph - son - 11 - Scholar - Stony Stratford Bucks 1851 Wolverton, Bucks - Dist 9b Top of the page - address quite difficult to decipher John Gascoyne - 52 - Labourer - Stony Stratford, Bucks Mary - wife - 45 - Stony Stratford Bucks Elizabeth French (looks like) - dau - 19 - Stony Stratford Jane ditto - dau - 17 - Stony Stratford John ditto - son - 16 - Iron Moulder - ? Marston Henry Gascoyne - son - 14 - ? Marston Alice - ditto - dau - 8 - Stony Stratford Joseph ditto - son - 1 - ? Wolv 1841 Wolverton Bucks - Dist 18 Address looks like - Station John Gascoyne - 46 - Labourer - Bucks Ellen - 39 - Bucks Edwin - 12 - Bucks Ann - 8 - Bucks Mary - 6 - Bucks Henry - 4 - Bucks Elizbth - 1 - Bucks Cannot say for certain that this is the family you are looking for, so you do need to research the above to prove it. It fits for me, even though some of the places of birth vary as do ages, quite common, but you have to weigh up all the info contained in the census details. You can download the pages from Ancestry, as you probably already know. Next you could try the IGI (International Genealogy Index) on - www.familysearch.com, also - www.freebmd.org.uk and of course Ancestry.co.uk, who have all the bmd registrations from 1837 onwards, and some for before but not all. What I found, should they be the right family, should help you on your way. You can order certificates from - www.gro.gov.uk - for any bmd from end of 1837 onwards, to help you prove the family. Hope this helps. |
