Using the Web as a tool to assist with Genealogy is a great pastime. You can get software that helps you be organized; Vital Records that prove your ancestry; family tree branches from other people and sites; Obits; wills; probate; and make friends at the same time.

My favorite site is LDS Family Search. First place to look. Then GENFORUM for a surname Forum. Ellis Island for immigration sometimes, and a host of other free and pay sites.

Family Histories are not related to an address. Usually only living people have an address. There are look up sites for living people that are reverse, and you get the people. For the history of an address, you go to the Town, or City tax department, and the records are public - not usually on the web though.
