Genetically speaking, what are hazel eyes?

My eyes are a green/brown color. Sometimes they appear completely brown, sometimes green, sometimes a mix. This spurred my curiosity. Are hazel eyes a genetic mix of brown and green eyes? brown and blue? What genotype does a person have if they have a hazel eye phenotype? Also out of pure curiosity: does anyone know what country has the highest percentage of people with hazel type eyes?
