Question:

Does anyone know the origin of the surname Nyeerg? Swedish?

I would love any serious input anyone has on this surname.
Thanks!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: "Nyeerg" doesn't sound Swedish at all. But "Nyberg" certainly does. Could it be that? Nyberg is a pretty common name in Sweden, and like so many Swedish names it is inspired by nature. It means "New mountain" (or perhaps "new moon mountain". Ny means new, but was also used for the new moon). Families called "Nyberg" and other "nature names" are in most cases not related to each other. I have looked in the entire Swedish telephone directory online, and not one single person is listed as Nyeerg. There is one "Nyerg", but I'm not sure if that is a typo or not. I looked in the Norwegian and the Danish directory, too, but there is no Nyeerg or Nyerg there either - only Nyberg.
