Is there a way to get free obituaries of a loved one online?

A dear friend of mine died this past christmas, i am looking for his obituary and i cant find it, i found a bunch of ancestry site that want me to sign up before they show any results if there are any. If you can help thank you. If your are going to tell me to google his name, please dont reply at all, thanks again.
