where did the people of Ireland originally come from ?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Africa or the Garden of Eden, depending on whether you believe in Evolution or Creation.

No one knows where the Picts came from. They were probably a Celtic tribe, and they are the first "Irish" whose name we know. Not the original settler, just the first whose name we know. There were other Celtic tribes too, some with their own name, some just "Celt". No one knows how many waves came over, either to invade or to settle in a glen no one else had claimed. The Gaels, anoher Celtic tribe, were the last invaders before the Normans. The Vikings added some tall, blond genes to the pool now and again. Some Angles and Saxons sailed over to see what they could steal, now and again.

There were neolithic hunter-gatherers in Ireland right after the glaciers from the last ice age receeded. There were humans there before the last ice age too.

You get into the Neanderthal controversy - invasion, inter-breeding or some combination?

There are 400-page books and History channel programs on the subject of human settlement in the British Islands and Ireland. It gets both complicated and controversial. The mists of time hide more than they reveal. A good answer would take more than a YA post.
