Question:

When you get married what is the difference between hyphenating or adding his last name?

After i got married I went and changed my last name to my middle name and his last name as my last name so for expamle my name is Sophia(first name), Perez(my maiden name), Gomez(his last name). When I changed my insurance paperwork they changed it to Sophia Perez-Gomez. Is there a difference, legally?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: There is a difference. I would call your insurance company and correct them. You should keep your name the same format in all of your documents. Trust me on this. I didn't and it has been a big headache. Things are filed under both letters (my maiden name and current last name. Some things are in just my maiden name some, in just my married name, and some in the hyphenated form AAARRRGGHH!!! Nip this in the bud if you can.
