Question:

Where does the surname "Tarling" come from and what is it's meaning?

As a Mr. Baker today will have had his ancestor baking bread or selling it in his ancient community etc.. However I have tried to find a site with a database for surnames and their meanings/origins. "Tarling" is my surname and I think the "early Tarling's" were from around Essex/England. Who can help?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The origin of the surname Tarling is English. Take a look at the following link.

Looking for the origin of a certain name is a common question here. And it's fine if that is all someone wants. But it does not tell you anything for certain. Here are a couple of links to surname message boards if you are interested. They do have a specific board for Tarling. Many who frequent these boards are genealogists and may have some more insight into your specific surname. There are also separate boards for states, counties, and countries if you are interested.
