Can anyone help me find a legit family crest?

I am searching for a company that provides a legit family crest. I do not know much about my ancestors, and many of the searches return different crests for different reasons. I want to proof my family crest before I send the outstanding amounts of money to purchase one. Please help!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The best I can tell you is that only knights, nobles and royals had crests and they were bestowed upon them. THE VAST MAJORITY of families NEVER had a crest.

If you want to prove that crest ever belonged to your family, it will be in a heraldry book at a good library. Ask the company for the name of the knight or noble to whom it was bestowed and the date of the bestowal. If it's a legitimate crest they'll have that information.

The other thing is to look around the site. How many other families are being told that same crest is theirs? On one site, I found 20 other families with the crest they were trying to sell me. I know the crest they were trying to sell me was false because the name I used was one that I know is not the correct European spelling...not even remotely close. And it never had a crest. I asked for the documentation behind the name and it was all falsified.

The reality is that you are like the other 99.7% of us whose family never had a crest. You would do better to go to one of the sites that allows you to create your own crest. At least that one would be legitimately yours.
