As a last name the word exists in Greek (I do not know if it exists in another language), just like Avgustakis (Avgustos=August), Aprilakis (from Aprilios/Aprilis=April) etc
The suffix is distinctive on the island of Crete
(and Chios is now a part of Greece officially).
