Geneology: How do you find out an exact birthdate?

I found a UK BMD index online and I now have the Full name, Mother's maiden name and the Month and Year of birth of someone. What is the next step if I want to find the actual date of their birth?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You have to apply for the actual birth certificate from the index number. This costs about ⣷ and you can do it from the family records centre in London, which is where I found all mine, or the local registry offices (I think).
