Question:

Finding records of my real great-grandmother?

Ugh! I have worked for weeks trying to find the records that go belong to my great-grandmother. She had a very common name, for instance, Mary White (not real name). I know she was born in Kentucky and her date of birth, but when I try to find a birth certificate 200 other of the same names (or close to it) comes up.

I've tried birth records, the census around her date of birth, obits, whatever. I need an idea of what I am forgetting or missing. Marriage certificate does not help because it does not list her home town or her parents names. Plus, it was issued in a state different from her birth state.

She was also part Cherokee and I did find her name on the Dawes Roles but I have to link this particular "Mary White" to those roles...and of course there were about 6 with the same name on the roles.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I do not know if she had brothers or sisters. A lot of my family on that side have passed away. I do know she was born in 1884 because I found her SS index number.

I have tried looking at the 1890 censuses as well as the 1900 (that is when I found her on the census with her husband). I feel I a running into a brick wall because her name was so common.

It's crazy...lol
