Question: Should i ask my crush to the sadie hawkins dance!?

now our dance is a long ways away!.!.january 30th to be exact!.!.!.but i was thinking that about a few weeks before the dance that i would ask my crush to it!. im thinking of asking him to go as friends!.!.!.would that be good!? i dont want it to be awkard becuz he and i have only known each other since the begining of the yr!.!.!.
