ok so here are the grades in my school for classical:
grade 1
grade 2
grade 3
grade 4
grade 5
grade 6
grade 7
pre-elementary
elementary
intermediate
advanced

At the start of the year i wanted to do ballet, so i asked my teacher and she put me into pre-elementary!. I dont know why she did because i'm 14 and there are 15 and 16 year olds in that class!. i could have easily gone into grade 7!. but she did say that i had strong legs!.

i did ballet when i was little for 3 years but stopped and continued other types of dance!.
in our school, there is no pre-pointe class!.
on the schools hand-out, it says that in pre-elementary you need pointe shoes!.
is pre-elementary considered as pre-pointe if you and 1 other girl are the only ones NOT on pointe!?!?!?

also if i started ballet at the beggining of the year, but have been doing dancing for about 6 years!.!.!.!. WHEN WILL I GO EN POINTE!!!!!!!!!?!?!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

as for going en pointe, its not only your age that determines that!. your ankles have to be very strong, and you have to have really good alignment!.

when others are on pointe and you are not, that just means that they were ready before you and you just need to be patient!. i know it is really annoying, and you may be tempted to just buy them on your own, but wait!. it really makes a difference!. just try really hard in class with your flat shoes so that your teacher will see that you are ready!.

even though there are 15-16 year olds in your class, age has nothing to do with your level of dancing!. if they happen to be better, thats just better for you because then it will be more of a challenge for you and you will improve greatly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well you go on En pointe when your ready!. I cant tell from talking to you online but talk to your teacher, doctor and parents!. Yes it could be considered pre-pointe!. But i dont know cause i dont do classses there!. So talk to your family doctor and teacher and so you know it is a very good thing if your dancing with older girls when you could be with the ones your age!. Come see me in the Boston Ballets Nutcracker im Clara!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I went on pointe when i was 13, and now i have a whole lotta foot problems, i think because i wasn't physically ready to go on pointe!. It really depends on what your feet and body are like though, as other girls in my class did not have problems with their feet!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree w/ lillolita!. Our dance instructor was pointe-happy and put 98% of her students in pointe shoes at the ripe old age of 6: That's right, first grade!. There's no way any of us were physically mature enough at that age to be ready for point!. 28 years later I have all sorts of arch, ankle, and knee problems that I'm certain are at least in some way related to having started pointe training too early--and I was one of the strongest dancers in my class!. I would hate to even ask what some of the other girls are experiencing!. Just be patient, even though it's difficult, and when the time is right your instructor will move you into pointe shoes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
