Question: What is the real life of a professional ballet/ modern dancer!?
Hi, I am a senior dance major about to start auditioning in the real world and joining all of those who bust their butts trying to get a job!. My school hasn't done the best of job at preparing us on what to expect life is like when you are finally done with school!. I am really interested in hearing from those on how they are making it; money, their happiness, and etc!. because i honestly have no idea what to expect!. I want to audition for companies like cedar lake, complexions, and Broadway and i was wondering if you could give me some great tips on how to work towards succeeding my goals!. Not knowing what is going to happen is really scary and exciting and i just want to hear how life is really like before i am thrown out there!. Thank you sooo much! Www@QuestionHome@Com

Are you thinking of NYC!?

The audition process will be tough!. Don't let it get you down!. also plan on side jobs, small gigs, small companies and a lot of classes to get you used to the NYC dance scene!. A good way to supplement classes is to work for the studio or to do work study!. This will let you still stay in shape while you are looking for a job!.

If you are thinking of auditioning only, plan well!. Scope out all the companies you are interested in and send letters of interest or phone calls!. If you have a resume or pictures send them as well!. They may invite you to audition!. If not, attend one of their "cattle call" auditions!. You also have to be used to the fact that very few ballet companies will sign you right away without an apprenticeship!.

The bottom line is, have a side job you can do while you audition!. Take classes to make friends and stay in shape!. Keep a positive outlook and plan at least a year before you land a solid gig!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Okay I may not be a professional dancer but I have been dancing for two years!. If you ever seen center stage, yeah way worst then that!. In dance and theatre guys will always have a easier time because not a lot of guys are doing theatre and dance!. But if you want to do Broadway stuff you have to built your audition book!. You need monolouges and songs that are not overdone, since you are a dancer try to do musicals that involves a lot of dancing such as Chicago and Fame!. Broadway I know but dance companies I can't help you withWww@QuestionHome@Com
