Question: Ball of Foot injury!? Performance this Saturday!!?
I am not exactly sure what happened, but yesterday afternoon the ball of my foot started hurting pretty badly!. The pain is worse when I flex it or point my toes!. There is no popping & no other pain anywhere else in my foot!.

It might have been twisted or hyper-extended (!?) in practice on Tuesday!. (Walking backwards on my toes with big-ish steps!.!.!.) It is the foot that we use a lot in the dance & there is no way around using it as we are on our toes a LOT!. Spinning on it, spinning jumps that both push off with it and land on it, arabesques, etc!.

We dance in socks, so I won't have the support of a shoe during practice or performance either!. (Please no comments about how we're dumb for dancing ballet in socks, it's not true ballet anyway!.!.!.)

What should I do!? Ice!? Heat!? A brace of some sort!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ice it as much as possible, 10 minutes ice on, 10 minutes ice off!. You probably bruised the ball of your foot (very common in dancers)!. You could also tape all around the sore area (medical tape works best), with the tape going completely around your foot enough times to cover the full area!. This can be done under your socks and will give a little support to the sore area!.

If the pain doesn't go away in 4 weeks or so you should see a doctor 'cause you could have a stress fracture!. It's most likely bruised though so don't worry!. Good luck on your performance!Www@QuestionHome@Com

ouchh that happened to me about a week ago!. I hyper-extended it doing pointe!. What i did was, i took an advil before i went to dance and iced it for a little when i got home!. Unfortunatly theres nothing to make it feel better sooner (believe me its happened so many times and u just have to wait it out)!. So my advice is just take an advil and fight through the pain!. It goes away after about a week!. Stretch it alot by flexing your foot!. You'll akso feel the stretch in your calf!. That helps it feel better in my opinion!. Good luck at your competition and i hope you feel bettter!!! =]Www@QuestionHome@Com
