Question: Too old to start dancing!?
I'm 20 and would love to become a professional dancer, but I haven't had lessons since I was eleven!.

Is it even possible to start lessons as a beginner at my age!?

All the places I've looked into are either for 6-18 year olds or ballroom for the elderly!. Does anyone know to any (part-time) dance classes that would be suitable for me!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

No you're never too old to dance :D
In Birmingham there's a place called DanceXchange which is partnered with Birmingham Hippodrome and Birmingham Royal Ballet at the Patrick Centre!. I go there, it's got loads of classes ranging from ballet to capoeira and it's a good price!. They have classes for all different ages!. Here's the programme for Autumn 2008 http://issuu!.com/wsouthworth/docs/class_!.!.!.
Hope this helps :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I didn't start ballroom dancing until I was 21, and I'm doing very well for myself!.

Group classes are not the way to do it though!. At least, not in ballroom!. Because you started late, you need to work 10 times as hard to achieve you goals!. If you're genuinely serious about getting to the top, be prepared to pour your whole life into it!. 6 hours training a day, 5-6 private lessons a week etc etc!.

People say you're too old at 20 to start dancing with a goal to become a professional not because it's too hard physically!. It's because the sacrifices and sheer amount of work you need to do when you start late (say goodbye to a social life), means very, very few people are actually serious enough about their dancing when they take it up at that age to achieve anything!. (I'm not exaggerating here - I work full time to support my dancing, then train from around 6pm to midnight every weekday, then 12 or so hours on weekends - you'll need to do something similar)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Congrats on making this decision-- id say the best thing to do is look at adult classes--- (also have you looked at professional dance centres!? Maybe even stage schools might cater for adults)!.!.!.!. to re gain some experience id suggest taking up some adult classes in your area and then if you decide you really want to go professional then look at colleges and universities!.!.!. it would help you get the experience you really need, especially in cheroegraphy etc!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's never too late to start dancing!.
But it think if you are wanting to take it onto a professional level it is very rare to do so from that age, when you havent trained for years!.
You are going to have to work extremely hard, working non stop with all your effort, don't over do it!.
If you do this then hopefully, cross your fingers, you'll be able to complete your dream!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know about the classes but there are a handful of professional dancers who started later in life!. You might not get to work in the most prestigous ballet company but, community ballets are just as much fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com

you only have to watch stricly come dancing to see that anybody can learn at al ages, !.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. nobody is under 30 well perhaps some!.!.!.!.!.!.!. and they are superb!. i go to salsa classes once a week and i am 60 in januaryWww@QuestionHome@Com

It's not too old!. You can start off by going in with the 18 year olds!. Two years won't make much of a difference!. You can check into local schools to see if they offer classes for all ages!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

You're never too old to dance!
If you can stand up you can dance!.

Dance with your zimmer frame - if you have one!.
