A la seconde is a very difficult position to achieve!. It is very likely that you are taking your flexibility further than your turnout can handle, causing you to roll in, and sickle!. In second, it is very common for people to lift the hip in order for the leg to get higher!. This means turnout is not being maintained!.

When you are doing moves enlair (in the air) to second (grand battements, developes), you should only do them as high as your turnout permits!. If you can get your leg right up next to your ear, but you are not turned out, then this is useless for ballet!. You should begin in the tightest 5th possible!. Then do NOT let that supporting leg move from it's turned out state, as you lift your leg to prepare for develope!. In this prep for develope, your thigh should be well pushed back!. You should ensure your foot is not sickled, If it is, bring the position lower, and push the hell of the foot forward!.

When extending, you must hold this turnout!. You may find your leg will go incredibly low!. With practise this will get higher!. Do not worry about the height until you can perform the excersise properly!. You may be used to (for example, in jazz), doing moves the HIGHEST you can, the BIGGEST you can!. Not the case in ballet!. Keep it small, but keep the technique good!.

To correct sickling, a good thing to keep in mind is to try to show the sole of the shoe to the front (in second), while keeping the big toe on the floor!. Another way to think about it is to remember to push the heel forward!.

You will be able to be en pointe by 15, i think!. Everyone is different, but perhaps in a year or so you could be on pointe, yes!. Keep working hard!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, all i can say is!. A sickled foot is always gonna be there somewhere in your dancing career!. But you always have to find a way to maintain good turnout, when in second position!. Just try your hardest, and practice!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
