Question: Jogging and taking ballet lessons, is this appropriate!?
Hi, I have been taking ballet lessons for beginners for a month now, I'm 18 years old!. I was browsing through some forums yesterday and some people were saying that jogging/running is not good for ballet dancers but some said there was no problem!.!.!. So I don't know, I've been running for a few months now and don't know if it's a problem to do both!?

Thanks in advance!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It used to be that jogging or running was counterproductive to ballet training, and at a young age when you're still growing and developing, it could be a problem!. But nowadays, and at your age, there's really nothing wrong with it!. It's actually a good way to cross-condition because you're using different muscles while running than while dancing!. The only thing you need to worry about is to try not to run on cement as this can cause shin splints and is quite jarring to the knees and spine!. Make sure you have some good running shoes too to take care of your feet and always warm-up with some brisk walking before you break out into a run, then cool down by walking a few minutes before stopping and stretch afterwards!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i would think it would be fine, but my teacher says that jogging and/or running can over develop your thighs/rotators/quads!. and altough its good to have muscular thighs it has to even out some where and it is harder to do that!. also they dont want ur thighs to be to bulky because they want graceful!. but that really doesnt matter either!. so just go for it
(id be careful about shin splints though because ballet causes them and running does to so them to together could mean that!.!.!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

It definitely helps because it builds endurance and strength, as well as core muscles, which is the essential of dancing, especially in ballet!. All of your movement comes from holding yourself and pulling up!. It can be hard on your knees though, which is why in ballet it can be discouraged!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
