Question: Question about juliard and dance!?
this is the question i emailed to juliard but they never wrote back what do you guys think!?!?

Hello, this is lucy!. I want to know if it is possible to be accepted to your school!. I am only 13 but I am planning ahead!. I started modern dance last year and I am quite good!. I started ballet this year but I did it when i was little, then i quit for gymnastics!. Anyways i started it again!. I am ok, my teacher says I will be ready for pointe next year!. I practice alot!. I am really flexible and graceful!. I am a fast learner and I already know alot of the ballet terms!. By the end of high school I will have 6 years of modern, 5 years of ballet, and 4 years of pointe!. I will practice so hard!. Do I even have a chance of getting into your school or should I forget it!? I am also interested in The Boston Conservatory!. Which one do I have a better chance of getting into!? Please answer!. Thank you!. -Lucy

if you continue to work hard then you will DEFINITELY be able to get into Boston Conservatory!. Julliard accepts 20 girls and 20 guys of their over 200 applicants so the chances you get in are slim but I still think you should try (you wont know if your good enough unless you audition when your older)!. You are only 13 and I am sure if you work hard you will reach your goals!. you should also look at pointe park!.!.!. they have a ballet major and modern major dance programWww@QuestionHome@Com

You will probably get into one since you sound very decicated!.
Btw, that's amazing that you are going en pointe after just one year of ballet; grats!!

Dear Lucy,

My daughter auditioned for Juilliard and wasn't accepted!. I recently wrote about her disappointing audition experience in another answer
http://answers!.yahoo!.com/question/index;!.!.!.
which you really need to read so you can understand that, even with over 13 years of ballet and 4 years of modern, including attendance for two summers at a "Big Name" summer ballet intensive (amongst her other summer intensives), she was rejected by Juilliard!.

Juilliard (actually) accepts 12 guys and 12 girls out of about 500-600 applicants!. And what you have to keep in mind is that, since there are far more girls applying than boys, your chances for acceptance are even slimmer than what veryberrybluebop depicted!. You can try to increase your chances by attending their summer intensive for 15 - 17 year olds, but that program is almost as tough to get into!. (My daughter auditioned twice for that and didn't get in!.) So while you shouldn't "forget it," you really, really shouldn't get your hopes up!.

You do stand a much better chance of getting into the Boston Conservatory, but NO ONE can say you will definitely get in through sheer hard work!. Aspiring dancers need to realize that hard work and dedication only matter if A) you are talented in dance and B) you are fortunate enough to get the right training!. Without good training by top notch teachers (those who were or are professional dancers), hard work and dedication will get you nowhere (except maybe teaching the next crop of dance students who are headed nowhere)!.

The key to getting accepted into a selective dance program - one that screens out applicants through an audition - is to already be successful in getting accepted into selective dance programs!. In other words: elite summer dance intensives and year-round ballet academies!. In order to compete on the national level with all the other applicants to these top college programs, you need to be training with those who have been selected from a national pool!. My daughter reached that level when she was 14, so it's not too late for you!. But you need to start auditioning for those summer intensives this coming audition season!.

Those auditions will start telling you whether you have a chance!. An email can't tell anyone how good you are (or not), so it's no surprise that Juilliard didn't respond to you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
