do runners lunges!

heres a picture of what they look like, make sure ur knee is right over ur ankle, and make sure you arent putting much pressure on the front leg!

you can always put that back leg down on the ground when you are first starting out, and it will help a whole lot with ur splits! we do this in dance all the timeWww@QuestionHome@Com

Don't we all!. Ayway, i have the same problem on my left side, my leg wont stay straight! For that, my teacher tells me to sit on one knee and keep my hips straight and then do those half-split things w/ one leg bent!.As for stretchingthem, stretch out before you do them, to get the muscles stretched!. Then go down as far as you can without pushing it to see where you are at!. Then come out and stretch a little more, then go back into them and push yourself a little lower!. Stay in them for at least a minute, trying every now and agasin to push lower!.But DONT HURT YOURSELF!. Harming a muscle will just make it harder to get them after the injury heals!.
Some good stretches are:

To have someone who knows your limits hold your leg and pull them close to you!. Dont let them hurt you!.(for this, it works best if they are about your same height/strength)

You can put your leg on something high and plie and rise!. You can also slide it along that sufrace!.

Try going down to the floor!. Put one leg back like a split and bend the other slightly above were your splits are!. Put your head down close to the knee!. Then bend forward to stretch your hip and then push back on that leg and point your foot tostretch your calf!. (this works well right before you do your splits)

Try doing them over a pillow (or two)!. As you get further down, take away one pillow at a time!.

You can put your foot up on a chair, bench, etc, at any time, and gently stretch the hamstrings, this will help as well as doing the splits!.

Or, in a warm shallow bath, practise leaning forward to touch your toes!. The warm water will loosen your muscles, and increase your flexiblility!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you have a ballet bar you could stretch on that!.!. that's what I do!. Or maybe your counter top, or table!. Just put your leg on it and instead of putting your nose to your knee, put your ribs to your leg!.!. what I mean by that is arch your back and lean into your leg!.!. it's painful, but it works :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

while watching tv or listening to music sit in your splits (with or with out pillows!.) if using pillows remove one at a time after a while and do that for a large amount of time each day!. Go farther down at a time but dont over stretch yourself!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just keep stretching daily but don't force it!. If you become to anxious,, you might pull a muscle by overstretching and you'll delay your progress by weeks if not months!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
