Question: Ballet questionnnnn!!?
I am in 10th grade and am dying to do pointe!. I quit dancing after 6th grade because I hated the studio, but if I hadn't quit, in 7th grade I would have been pointe!. I tried taking ballet last year, but quit because i was intimidated by the other dancers (stupid me), and I really just wasn't liking it at that studio!. So I quit in december!. Then I tried again this year, but then my school decided to start a dance team!. I had went in one whole (advanced) ballet class, then my mom said she's rather me do the dance team because it was free and I got more dancing and a competition oout of it!. So I quit ballet again!.
But i really, really, really want to do pointe!. Whenever I think of quiting way back in 6th grade, It kills me! How can I convince my mom to let me try ballet, AGAIN!!.!.and is it possible to get any private ballet classes (in Sudbury, Ontario)!.!.
also, do you think it would be possible for me to continue my ballet classes when I'm in university!?!?!?!?!?!?
Thanks a lot! Www@QuestionHome@Com

First off, the best way to find out is to look in your phonebook and drive around one day!.
It is annoying, but way better then asking people who don't live there for you lol!.

Second, you need very, very strong ankles, core, calves, thighs, and many other muscles!. The theraband is a good way to start!. Stretch your feet with it 1-2 times a day!. also, point your feet whenever you can!. Watching t!.v!., eating dinner, or falling asleep are some good examples!. Try standing on the edge of your stairs so most of your foot is hanging off the edge!. Do 30 releves slowly so it works the muscle more!. If you do not know what a releve is!.!.!.get in ballet class A!.S!.A!.P!.

Third, you need amazing footwork!. Thus the 3-5 years of ballet training at the minimum!.

Fourth, yes you can dance in university and college!. Some schools are known for their dance programs!. I come from Ontario too (Ottawa) and I have been looking at York in Toronto (only if I get rich or a full scholarship though)!. They have an amazing contemporary dance program!. But, they are the only one I have heard of in Ontario!. So as long as you don't mind the expences of going to school out of town, do some research on York!.

Fifth, tell your mom that you didn't have the passion to do ballet when you were younger, but you do now!. Tell her what your goal is and make sure you have done TONS of research about pointe so that you can be an expert before even going en pointe!. If you get an allowence your your parents, make a deal!. Say 'I will continue to do my chores but for no allowence!. Will this help pay for the ballet classes!?' also, try looking for a part-time job!. If you aren't old enough to get a job at a grocery store or something, go to small, local stores and ask if you could sweep the floor, get a paper route, or mow lawns!. It may not be a lot of money coming in, but if you save it all if will add up!. Then you can help pay and it will be less of a stress on your mom!. Once you get back into a studio for a few months, ask if they need a teacher or assistant!. That would be a good way to make money aswell!.

I cannot stress how important it is to join a ballet class, strengthen your ankles/feet, and get serious about this!. If you need to choose between dance team and ballet class!.!.!.but you want to go en pointe some day, choose ballet!. If you would rather to the dance team, unless they have ballet, you won't be able to do pointe!.

Feel free to send me a message if you want any other info about pointe!. Small things liek standing on the tips of your running shoes can really mess up your feet and dance future!. Even if you don't want to go pro, you don't want bad arthrites in 10-20 years either!.

Hope this helps, have a nice day!!

wow yeah I have been en pointe for about 3 years now I LOVE IT!

1: maybe you're not supposed to be a ballerina and maybe you're destiny won't let you

2:ask your mom again and tell her you really want to dance ballet

3:it will still take time to get good enough to get pointe shoes work on your turn out and arch that will make pointe easier

4:some people can't get pointe shoe because there feet are shaped wrong for pointe but that's rare so just ask your teacher so you don't DIE when you find out

I don't know about in Sudbury, Ontario!.!. but in any of the studios around here (I've danced at most all of them!.) usually all you have to do is ask for a private lesson, and they'll make arrangements for you, or refer you to a person who will do private lessons!. Private classes do cost a bit more!.

You can absolutely take dance/ballet at university!.

Tell your mother how much you want to do it!. Share with her how upset you are that you quit!. If you don't tell her, she'll never know and just assume that you are happy with things as they are!.

Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
