Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Contemporary is what they made for the opposite for ballet with people like Martha Graham!. It uses the basic technique of ballet but it also uses stuff you will never use in ballet like flex foot and parallel!. its a lot more free form!.

i have only taken basic ballet but i have been doing lyrical and contemporary since i was little!. (preforming with san diego dance repertoire when i was in 4th grade)!.

it depends how far you get how fast you pick it up!. ballet background helps but not necessary!.

yes and no!. the yes part is kind of confusing!. you have to have good technique to do lyrical or contemporary (which you get from ballet) to make it look pretty!. No because you don't have to start when you are young!. I didn't start lyrical until i was in 6th grade!. I did start ballet when I was three years old though!. If you are flexible and know basic ballet things, you should be fine!. turn out and pointing toes are probably the most important things!. you could take a ballet class just to take it (not because you want to go far in it) but to have basic technique down and a lyrical or contemporary class!.

good luck!

I've always been told that lyrical and contemporary dancing were like a jazzy ballet!.

and i agree with everything else that caroline said, you can start lyrical or contemporary dancing at any age, but you need good technique and basic ballet skills!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
