Ok!.!.!.please be wary of the answers above!. Yes, go to the dance store and get fitted by one of their specialists!. I always recommend that my students try on EVERY pair of shoes they have in stock in their size, until you get the right fit!. (Most times I will go with them, so maybe ask your instructor!.) You should ALWAYS wear your pads and anyone who tells you to dance without them is just trying to torture you because that's what was required of them (us, me, back in the old days before all the neat, cool, comfortable pads came out!.) In your shoes (standing flat in parallel) your feet should be flat, not pinched underneath the ball of your foot!. Your toes should be just touching the tips of the boxes, not pushing against them!. The sides of the shoes should not be 'gapping', the fitter should know what this means!. When you rise up to pointe, the shoes should be snug enough so that your feet do not slide down excessively into the shoe, you should just be able to pinch a small amount of material at the heel of the shoe!. Overall, the shoes should fit closely around your foot!. They won't be "comfortable" per say, but they shouldn't feel painful just by putting them on!. Good luck! P!.S!. PLEASE, please, stay away from Gaynor Mindens, no matter what anyone tells you!. They're terrible for students!. Not even very many professionals will wear them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Allow the people at the dance store to do all the worrying for you!. They will help determine the right brand and fit!. Once you get them, do not mess around too much in them because you will probably get hurt or your teacher will be suspicious and re-consider if you are responsible enough for pointe if she suspects that you were already testing them!. Ask the fitters at the dance store any of your questions about shanks or boxes, and they will help!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well ive been on pointe since i was nine and im almost 15 now so i think id be the person to ask!. im assuming you take ballet and uve done pre pointe so shouldnt your instructors be telling you all of this!?!? i know mine did but the only place to get suitable shoes is at a dance apparel store!. they can find ur size ( i think its a size smaller than your tennis shoe size) and they give you the recommended pads that your dance school suggests because local apparel stores keep a book of nearby schools requirements!. and a tip about the pads you got!.!.!.!.dnt use them right away because then your foot will get used to them if they werent reccomended and then when your instructor tells you to take them out it will be harder!. hope i helped!Www@QuestionHome@Com

make sure you actually go to a store where you can get fitted by someone who knows what they're doing and can help you figure out if they fit right!.
