Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Lay on your back!. Lift your leg into the air, straight!. Hold it there!. Try with both legs!. Try with both legs straight, and just off the ground!. Killer on the abs!? Thought so!.

The abs are used to CONTROL the kick, and to keep the body upright!. Engaging the abs in the kick means you won't lean forward or hunch your back, which can be ugly!. It will also make sure you are controlling the kick!.

By not leaning forward, you'll obviously get your kicks higher, and be strong enough to do so!.

You can strengthen your abs by doing sit ups, crunches and pilates/yoga!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

BECAUSE, the abs are the CORE of your strength!. The core keeps everything stabalized as you kick!. Without strong core muscles you will either not be able to kick higher than your knee (you're waist if you're lucky) or you'll be able to kick high, but fall right over onto the other side!. also without strong core muscles you can't keep your hips square, which is a must!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Put your hand just above your belly button!. Kick!. Feel how the stomach kind of goes in when you kick!? You pull from your abs when you exercise your legs!. your abs are called your powerhouse or your core cause that's mostly where you're pulling from when you exerciseWww@QuestionHome@Com
