Yes you are correct, you do need to stretch!. Start by doing 20 easy crunches a day, and you will build body strength, when you actually start dancing, the teacher will show you new stretches!. Lyrical dancing is fun, but if you are a person who is not up for hard core training, don't try it!. Here are some other stretch tips!.!.!.
#1!. Lean against a wall and bend over, try to keep you knees, calves, and butt straight against the wall!. I do Irish step dancing and I do this!. It is hard, so practice alot! Hold for 30 sec!.
#2!. Sit on floor and put your feet flat against the wall and reach over all the way, it does hurt, but it is a very good stretch!.
#3!. Do at least 10 push ups a day!.
#4!. Spread your legs apart a little wider then shoulder distance, reach out, and remember, don't hunch, reach with a straight back!.
#5!. Sit down with our elbows on the floor under your shoulders, lift you legs up about an inch off the ground and hold for 20 seconds!. Then lift up into candle yoga position (onto your back legs straight up in the air!.) and come back down, repeat 5-10 times!.

I hope this helps!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would probably say that it is very good to have a jazz and ballet background before starting lyrical!. so your already half way there!. ballet is good for the technique and the jazz is good for rhythm and feeling!. Lyrical is a bit more emotional so be ready for that!. i think personally that stretching should be the same amount as jazz and even ballet!.
have fun!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to be able to feel emotions!. When you dance lyrical style, you should pull out feelings from your life and put them into the dance to make it real, meaningful, and powerful!. If you do that then basically all that is left is technique!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Personally, I think lyrical is a bit harder than ballet, but it's still amazing!.!.

I just recommend practice practice practice!

And stretch!Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you have took both ballet and jazz you souldn't have any problem taking lyrical!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
