Question: Can I still major in dance with little background experience!?
My greatest passion in life is dance!. Unfortunately I discovered this passion late in life (15 years old!.!.!.that's late for a serious dancer)!. I really want to pursue dance as a career (whether it be theatrics or simply teaching dance)!. However, I fear pursuing this goal of mine, as I feel I'm not qualified given my lack of experience and years of education!. I'm confident enough to know I CAN dance well and have the basics down, but I want to take my talent the extra mile!. I want to make the most of it and make it my life!. I'm contemplating going back to college (I'm 21), working hard to try and find my niche in dance and how I can mold this passion of mine into something vocational!. My heart and soul is 100% in this, but any good dancer knows it takes a lot more than heart and soul!. Do you think a major in dance for myself is feasible!? Your feedback is greatly appreciated!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes it is possible and since you are that passionate about it, then i don't see why making your dream come true should be an issue!.

i began my formal dance training when i was 14 and went on to major in dance and become a dance instructor so YES it is completely possible!.

my recommendation to you would be to start taking dance lessons at studios asap if you aren't already!. if you are, then you should be perfectly fine when you begin a dance program!. if not, take as many lessons in different dance disciplines as possible ballet, modern, jazz being the top three you should focus on!. if there is a day you aren't attending a dance class at a studio, be sure to be at least be stretching at home and practicing dance pieces or choreography that you might have learned in class, just be sure to be doing the stretching and dancing on a daily basis and for at least two hours!.

when you begin the dance program in college, you will be up to your eyeballs immersed in dance that the fact that you started dancing at 15 will seriously feel like a faded memory!.

i would say that the only reason it was a struggle for me was because my passion is hip hop and jazz and the dance program's focus was modern and ballet, but that's the whole point of college dance programs, to make dancers become well rounded dancers so that when they graduate, their options are far from limited!.

go for it! go for it! go for it!! look into the dance programs into colleges you might be interested in attending and in the meantime, go to the local studios as well!

have fun and enjoy making your dream come true!!! Www@QuestionHome@Com

No way is it too late! Especially to teach! It's obviously your passion and your goal, so take every opportunity and run with it!
As well as training, read as much as you can about technique!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
