Question: Adult Beginner Dance Classes!?
I need some advice from those who dance, even better if you started as an adult or teach!.

I would like to take up dancing as an adult (I'm 26)!. I've been active in martial arts in the past, and other sports, but never dance!. My mom, who used to be a professional dancer (ballet), always pushed me to try it and I never did since I felt that I was being forced!.

Now, I actually would LOVE to learn to dance (jazz, ballroom, b-boy/hip hop, you name it!)!. While I obviously missed my chance to try and become a pro ;) I'd like to think that all hope is not lost!.

How hard would it be for me to learn!? To become good enough to perform!? How long would you expect it to take!? Opinions and experiences, please!

P!.S!. My body type, if it matters, is petite (short and thinner) and muscular, although I am pretty curvy in the chest and butt, which is not good when it comes to dance!. But I'm hoping that I can work around this!.; ) I've been told my body type is good for gymnastics and some types of dance (not ballet, where you need to be a beanpole!)!.

I really want to dance, so please help me out!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi! I'm a dance teacher of ballet, jazz and hip hop, so i hope i can help!

I actually started dance at almost 14 years old, which was considered late!. But i managed to do well in many dance exams (honors with distinction for many, nothing below honors for jazz!. that is my specialty!.) I also competed with solos at competitions!. So you see that it is NEVER too late to learn to dance!. Now I'm teaching others!.

At the studio i teach at, we have adult classes for tap, jazz and ballet!. Many adult classes are recreational (meaning just for fun!.) You may like to take these just to begin with, and then move on to some more serious classes!. Keep in mind these will be with girls younger than you, but don't let that stop you! You are there to dance! If that's what you want to do, go for it!

I'm so glad you have your priorities in order!. Yes, it probably is too late to become a professional ballet dancer, but perhaps a small company is not out of reach, or a theatre company, or some other style!. Actually, look up Guinness World Records Oldest Ballerina - she started at 40, and is professionally performing at 60! She's performed in front of her president even i think! Not all hope is lost!.

Of course you can still perform!. At my studio, we have an adult class that competes!. At the dance comps we attend, they have a "seniors" section which is for adults over 25 or something like that!. This section is really fun (and often funny with the ladies acting like kids!.) Our team has won this section 3 times in a row for 3 years!.

Our adults also perform at the annual concert!.

I advise you to find a school that does adult classes!. Be sure to ask what performance options they offer!. This sounds like something you want, so make sure you go somewhere you will be happy, which means somewhere where you can perform!.

Body type definitely does not matter! Even if you don't have the perfect "ballet body", still do take ballet!. It's the foundation of all dance styles, so don't reject it!. And of course your curvy in the butt and chest - your 26, a grown woman! You can't expect yourself to be like those young 12 year old dancers who haven't hit puberty yet!. Embrace your curves as you are beautiful!. And this type of body definitely suits some of the more "sultry" styles - Broadway jazz (think Chicago!), Samba, Hip Hop, and tap well thats any body type!

Please start dance! I promise you'll love it!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd recommend latin ball room!. then you can compete, or actually go out clubbing and partner dance, vacations!.!.!.its a lot of fun!. I dance salsa, merengue, bacata, rhumba and a little chaha!. I've always considered myself a dancer going club battles first to house music, rnb, hiphop and now its all about the latin ball room!. Too much fun!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

body type doesn't have too much to do with it!. Unless it affects your strength level, and dancing!. Im 14 and i do ballet, And you do not have to be a beanpole for ballet, most ballet dancers get lean and thin, because they have practiced lots!. Only few (like 1 / 40 ) teachers will care about you skinnyness!. Take a couple classes of diffrent styles of dance!. And don't worry about your body shape!. Then narrow it down to the couple you are really passionate for!. You proberly missed your chance to become professinal, but hey if you work hard, you'll acheive your dreams !.!.!. and it all depends on your dancing!.
It might be hard, but if you're passionate about it, you'll do well!.
For performing, it all depends on your dance level, if you're talking about like the dance studio shows!. You are at an okay level!. But to be at shows where you pay money for!. you have to be really good !. I've performed at both, and some people are amazing!. Just remember do your personal best!. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something ! good luck with dance !
