Question: Tips on how to do a forte turn!?
next week im trying out for my middle school dance team!. if i do a forte turn I will earn an extra 3 bonus points with the judges!. this will really help me because it will even out the points I lose for my terrible toe touch!. I get the basics of it!. I know you have to use your arms and leg as momentum!. but my support leg tends to calaps!. thanks for the help =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Fouette turns are actually really easy!. It's just a matter of gaining enough momentum and holding your base leg strong through relevee and on flat foot so you don't collapse!. also, you shouldn't drag the leg thats in the air through the air!. Since you're turning, when you extend that leg, it will naturally turn, bringing you momentum!. Make sure to spot too so you don't travel!. This video should help you out!. *Your prep is really important, make sure you have even weight on both feet and a deep plie!.
*When you do the first pirouette make sure your core is tight, strong and pulled up!.
*when you spot to the front whip your leg out, keep it straight at 90 degrees and of course pointe your toes!.
*then carry it to second position and whip it back into passe
*make sure to spot, and make sure at each fouette your leg is 90 degrees!. Dont let it get lower as you do more and more!.
* Make sure your top is strong and dont sink into your hips!.
*When you plie make sure your foot is flat!.!.i know that sounds like duhhh why wouldnt it be!.!.!.put some people try to stay in releve when they plie!.
*Make sure your plie is as deep as you can get it!.
*also the more you do the faster your going to need to turn and whip your leg!.
*and of course dont forget to use your arms!


This is an exercise my teacher makes us do at the barre, it really works because she makes us do it like a million times!.

with your left arm on a chair or railing, anything thats can be used like a ballet barre, lift your right leg to the front, and plie with your left leg!. Then carry your right leg to second and whip it into passe, while your left leg releves!. Then do the same thing with your right arm on the barre and your left leg lifted!. That is the motion you are doing when turning!.
