Question: Why am i having trouble with my splits!?
I am 17, and I have been dancing on and off since I was 4 years old!.
I have been on a dance team for the past three years, which includes practices at least 3 times a week!. At the beginning of every practice, we stretch for about 20 minutes, and specifically focus on stretches that will help us with our splits!. also, I took technique classes every tuesday throughout the summer, and at the classes we did a lot of extensive stretching!.
BUT i still have not gotten my splits!! After 3 years! I am so close, I'm only a few inches off the ground!. But almost all the other girls on the team got their splits in the first year!. What is wrong with me!. Are some people just not able to do the splits!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

The longer you hold the stretch, the more the stretch will do for you!. If you aren't already, hold the stretch for AT LEAST 90 seconds!. I know it sounds long, but if you hold it for less, you aren't doing anything for your muscles!. Your muscles just bounce back to how they were before (my mom's a physio, so she know's this stuff)

It's usually better to start your flexibility when you are young, the older you get, the harder it gets and the more it hurts because your muscles are more developed!. Anyways, straight to the point, make sure you are rotating your hips the correct way, even if you are taking tech!. classes you may still have some problems!. also, try standing on two chairs (a foot on each) and slowly make your way down!. im 15 and i learned how to do a split this year and i dont even take dance
what i did was i stretched every day in to a split and every day i went further and further with both legs and a middle split!. and now i can do all three of them perfectly!. =]Www@QuestionHome@Com

Do u stretch everyday!? If u do, then maybe u need to be in the zone and believe that u can do it!. And ur not old!. Ur still a teen, like me!. Just keep workin' at it will pay off in the good run!. Can u also answer my questions!? Comment plz!.!.!.

I am 14 and i learned how to do my splits by getting in my middle position and staying there till i cant feell my legs!.:)you will learnt them quicker!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

try this:
hold your split for 1 minute everyday for a week and your split should become 1 inch closer to the ground!. 2 min/day=2 inches/wk

Try taking a warm bath, and practicing your splits right away!. The warm water relaxes your muscles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They could just be more flexible, like I got mine when I was 7 or 8 but that cause I'm super flexible and double jointed!. Nothing is wrong with you just do some extra stretches!!Www@QuestionHome@Com
