rosin is the sticky substance ballerinas put on the platform, heel, and outer shank of the shoe to prevent slipping during classes and perfomences!. some studios who offer more than ballet dont allow it because tap dancers and jazz dancers can be injured by it!. check with your studio before you use it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

rosin- is a solid form of resin obtained from pines and some other plants, mostly conifers, produced by heating fresh liquid resin to vaporize the volatile liquid terpene components!. It is semi-transparent and varies in color from yellow to black!. At room temperature rosin is brittle, but it melts at stove-top temperatures!. It chiefly consists of different resin acids, especially abietic acid!.

Rosin creates traction between the shoe and the floor!. You would use rosin if the floor is slippery!. For example a hardwood floor, or for example during a performance because stage floors are often slippery!. But if the floor is marley there is usually enough friction where you dont need rosin!. Rosin prevents you from slipping!. Its sticky and it kind of makes your shoe stick to the floor!. But it's not soo sticky that it affects your dancing!. i perfer to use rosin, I think it gives you a better control on your dancing, your not slipping or sliding!. But thats just my preference!. You put rosin anywhere on the shoe that can be slippery!. The at the heel, the balls of the feet and the platform Another use of rosin is if your heel tends to slip out of the shoe, or some dancers do this just to make their shoe extra secure!. You dip you heel into the rosin and put the shoe on!. Then you run water on the heel onlyyy!!! The water and rosin mixed together becomes sticky forming an adhesive!.

The rosin that we use at my studio is typically meant for ballet and pointe only and it's a chalk-like substance that you use to keep from sliding & slipping on the stage / floor!. I always find that using too much rosin causes you to stick to the floor and makes it harder to turn, etc!.!. plus it can make your shoes (especially soft ballet shoes) squeak like crazy! I usually only use a little for performances but some dancers need more than others!.!. hope this helped! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com
