I think the whip stitch is great and I'm glad my instructor taught it to me!. It keep the pointe shoe snug on the foot, never comes loose, and doesn't pinch the Achilles Tendon!. I've actually had my ribbons/band pop off during a dress rehearsal (which made it very difficult to dance, let alone pirouette), so my teacher taught me to use the whip stitch before the actual performance!.
