Position:Home>Dancing> Dancing for one year and need advice!?

well i can certainly understand how awkward you would feel if you had to go back there especially if things were left off on a sour note, but i do agree with ballet girl, it depends on what the issues were!.

for background information on me, i started dancing at your age, so as far as being able to start dance at your age, there are NO issues, it is highly advisable, however, for you to keep dancing from here on out since you do love dancing, especially for ballet and modern!.

if the issue was that you needed to be taking classes at the beginning level for the duration of a year, possibly two, i'm more than certain the director was only looking out for the best of your benefits and interests and meant no malice towards you!.

hopefully the director was open enough to at least let you personally see how comfortable you were in intermediate classes!. whether or not she did, i'm not sure, but if so, were you comfortable or were you struggling in the intermediate classes!?

if she's basing her decision (again, this is all speculation on my part) on how you did in an intermediate class or two, then yes, she's looking out for your safety and benefit!. safety is a big issue in those two disciplines because of all the weird and unnatural positions you put your body in!.

and if that was the case then, i know it may suck having to stay in beginning classes, but dance is something done much better, and more safely, when it's given time to marinate!.

spending a lot of time in dance on any level is NEVER a waste of time!. if you truly think about it, wouldn't you prefer to become super badass at one level, i mean to the point where you can turn it upside down, flip it over, drop it like it's hot, toss it back, and come running for more, it so has nothing on you, before you go to the next level!?

i know i would!. i also know that i would appreciate it if a teacher gave me her honest opinion and gave me the benefit of evaluating my own skills and knowing for myself where i stand!. she might have conveyed her message in a bad way, but all in all, i believe she wants what's best for you!.

having said all that, remember, the more time spent dancing the better! if you were dancing twice a week before, triple it! stretch out every day and dance every day!

if that studio is the only studio that is accessible to you, or if you want to go back to the other studio you auditioned for, it's best that you make the commitment of dancing everyday on your own time, dancing outside of studio time, just don't give up and never get discouraged! and rest assured, there are going to be a lot of discouraging moments in dance and a lot of criticism, but remember, the criticism is there for your benefit, the discouraging moments you can just forget and brush off your shoulders ;)

i believe anyone can dance supremely well if they put their body soul and mind to it, and it sounds as though you already have that halfway down! go for it girl, you do what you want to do! nobody should tell you not to follow your dream! but follow it safely so that you can do it for as long as you live!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on what he meant by issues!. if he meant an aditude, than i think you should calm down for a bit and return to the dance studio!. if they meant by physical, talk to the director and have them show you what they mean! i will help a lot! if you really enjoy dancing and you liked it there than there is no reason why you should have left!Www@QuestionHome@Com
