Hi! Firstly I want to say that no way are you too old for ballet! Anyone has the right to enjoy and learn ballet - young, old, tall, short, big, small, male, female! You are never too old to start to learn! Now it's true that you probably won't become a professional ballet dancer, but that definitely won't stop you from becoming a great dancer!. It will take a lot of hard work though!.

However, it seems like you want to take ballet for fun, fitness and to learn to be able to move beautifully like those dancers!. Please don't worry about your weight!. If you are overweight, you won't the the first overweight person to do ballet!. Plus, it is great exerciser so if you did want to lose a bit, ballet would help!. PLEASE remain a healthy weight, and don't act silly about it!. If you want to do ballet, you must be healthy, NOT underweight! So only loose it if you need to for your health!.

BEFORE you buy the ballet shoe, you need to find a class!. Look in your local directory for ballet schools!. You may like to find a dance school which offers not only ballet but tap, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics and other styles as well!. You may enjoy these kinds of dance also!. If you want to learn purely ballet, and take a more serious approach to it, a school specializing in ballet would probably be best!. Call the schools and ask if they have beginner classes for teenagers!. I would call quite a few schools close by to you to find something your happy with!. You may be placed in a class with girls a few years younger than you, but you will progress quickly up!. You can also look dance schools up online!.

When you decide on a school, call them and ask about what you need to wear!. To your first class you won't be expected to have the shoes or a leotard of anything!. After a few classes you will need ballet slippers!. These are often called soft shoes of ballet flats, because they are different to pointe shoes!. You must not get pointe shoes as a beginner!. You will need to wait a few years before getting these!. Don't buy your first ballet slippers on the net!. Go to a store or to your school to get fitted!. Your school may have a dance store they like, and they may like a particular kind of ballet shoe (split sole/full sole, leather/canvas, elastics/ribbons etc!.)

Hi! You can DEFINITELY still start taking ballet! It's never too late! I started about 3 years ago and I also thought I was too old (I was put in a beginner's class) Three years later I'm in my school's advanced class and competition team!. I also get to go en pointe! If you love ballet and are determined to improve, you'll become an awesome dancer and also lose weight in the process(dancing is a very healthy way to get in shape=])!. You should first go buy ballet slippers and then get the school's uniform(if they have one) Don't get pointe shoes (they're for more advanced danceres and can hurt your ankles if they're not strong enough!. You have to learn technique first) Then sign up and try your best!. Good luck!=]Www@QuestionHome@Com

no way are you too old! dont worry about your weight, you might be bigger than a few girls in your class, but thats fine! and if your on a diet, then dance will certainly help with that!.
do NOT buy pointe shoes!. i wouldnt even buy regular dance shoes til youve spoken to your teacher, many schools may want a certain type of shoe!. also, you may be able to get them cheaper, many dance schools buy shoes supplier direct, which is good if money is an issue!.
pointe shoes can ruin your feet if you wear them before you are ready, so definitely DONT buy them!.!.!.
make sure to wear something stretchy, that you can freely move in!.!.!. a leotard is best, but if you dont have on thats fine, your teacher wont expect for the first few lessons!. just go through the yellow pages (if you have that in america), for a school in your area!. a class for teen beginners would be best, its easier to make friends, and that way you wont get stuck with a bunch of snotty nine-year olds!.!.!. just other people your own age, who have the same levels of experience!.
im 15 as well! and wanting to start ballet!. so good luck!
and dont be too overwhelmed at the first class, just go with the flow and give it your best!Www@QuestionHome@Com
