Like everyone has already said, take ballet!. It is truly the foundation for all other dances because it is quite simply the most difficult!. All other dances after ballet will be easy to pick up!.
Some studios do require a dress code, but a simple black leotard with pink tights and pink canvas or leather ballet shoes is almost always what is the standard attire!. The most important thing is to wear something tight and something that doesn't cover your legs!.

The reason why this is the standard is because your instructor will need to see your whole body, and particularly your legs to see how well you are doing!. If you go to a more relaxed dance school, and you don't have the money for expensive gear, you might try this alternative to the above outfit:
your tightest cami top, shortest and tightest cotton gym shorts, and a pair of socks in place of the ballet shoes!.

If you decide to buy leotards etc!. try discountdance!.com!. They have decently priced items!.

Here are some ways to convince your mom:
1) Ballet makes you healthy:
It is exercise, and exercise makes your immune system and heart better!. You won't be sick as often, and you will just be a healthier person all around!.

2)It will help you keep your weight down in a healthy way: Obesity is high in children, teens, and adults anymore!. Ballet will keep you looking and feeling healthy!. You will gain lean muscle, and a slimmer, healthier physique!.

3) Organized dance classes are safe fun:
Would she rather you be in something where you can get into trouble!? Even school sports teams provide plenty of opportunity for children and teens to get into trouble, but not dance!. Quite frankly, you are too busy and too tired from dancing to get into any trouble!. You dance from the time you arrive, until the time you are picked up!. There are no breaks for you to get into trouble, and you are never out of your dancer master or mistress's gaze!. They act like the strictest teacher you will ever have, but it will be good clean fun!. Your mom will really appreciate this when you start driving!.

4) It will educate you:
Ballet uses a lot of French terms, which introduces you to an entirely different culture and language!.

5) You will be able to get a better job some day:
Ballet has traditionally been something that the upper class exclusively participated in!. Even though most anyone can participate in ballet, it is still considered one of the refined activities and sets you in a class above the rest, and most likely, even if you don't dance professionally some day, you will have your experience in common with most high paying job holders, which will in turn give you a beter chance of securing good jobs in the future!.

6)Ballet gives you grace and poise:
Your balance will improve, and overall you will adopt a more attractive and graceful appearance!. Because of the way ballet makes you stand when you dance, your neck will lengthen like a swan's, your shoulders will slope gracefully, and you will adopt a kind of floating walk which will look beautiful!.

As a young dancer I found dance has done all this for me, and my fellow dancing friends, and it will probably do the same for you!. Good luck convincing your Mom!

even though everyone is saying "start with ballet" you could i guess, but do whatever you want!. if you wanna do ballet, go for it!.
as for what you wear, some studio's hav a dress code!. at my studio, a leotard, balllet tights, shorts and a form fitting tank top is perfectly acceptable!.
and for your mom, well i'm guessing shes the one paying for the classes so just try and tell her that dance is NOT a waste of time and you really want to join!. it might help you out and it will keep you healthy and in shape!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i say jazz!.!.it is true that ballet is the foundation of all dance, but jazz still teaches you so much and it's more fun!.!.if you do jazz, then you would need to go a dance store and get jazz pants and jazz shoes!.!.any type of fitted shirt would work

have fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com
