I assume your belly dancing!? Hip rolls are extremely complicated if you can't already isolate!. The way I learned was by learning isolations first!. Start with rib cage slides!. What you do is keep your arms out to your sides, and concentrate on lifting the rib cage!. Do this a couple of times until it becomes a familiar movement!. Then, with feet planted firmly on the ground, about shoulder width apart, try to slide your upper body from side to side, keeping everything from the waist up vertical!. This takes a lot of practice and you'll feel it pulling in your abs, especially in the side obliques, but you'll feel the tension wrap all the way around your core!. When you're comfortable that you can do the slides without moving your hips and legs, try flipping it and moving your hips out to each side while keeping your upper body still!. These are hip isolations!. When this is mastered you'll be able to not only move the hips to the side, but up as well!. Practice some figure eights, as these will get you familiar with moving your hips separately from the rest of your body!. When doing the hip roll, you've got to concentrate on contracting the abdominal muscles, which will give you more control of the lower body!. The hip roll is pretty much the same as the isolations (slides), but what you're doing is contracting different sections of the abs at different times!. The 3 main sections you're concentrating on are the upper abs (think of it as your diaphram if that helps), lower abs, and hips on each side!. When these muscles are contracted and released in succession, you'll have learned the hip roll!. Hope this helps! :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com
