Question: ATTENTION DANCERS! i need help!!!!!!?
okay, sorry this is gonna be long!. but please read and answer!. =]

ok!. i'm on 2 competitive dance teams, and this whole shinanagin happened RIGHT in the middle of comp season! so about a month ago, i reaalllly messed up my ankle!. long story short, 3 grade-3 torn ligaments, 4 bone contusions, bone marrow adima, and some stress fractures!. so i'm having surgery in july, obviously i can't dance on it or i'm risking a compound fracture on both sides of my ankle =[[ of course this KILLLLS me, but i'm managing, since this is my third surgery in the past 2 years!. [mind you, i'm 15] dance is and will always be my passion, but i'm not going to be able to dance until january of 2009 !!!!!!! i'm leaving the competitive style for more of a contempory style!. [i dont thing that after this is all said and done i will be able to whip out 6 pirrouettes anymore :( ]

so my question to you is the following:
how do i keep myself occupied and in shape over the summer and the months of recovery!?!!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Asides from Pilates which, is really good way of working your balance and center, you can work on your flexibility and turn-outs (doing a la second stretching on the floor as one of the exercises)!. You can concentrate on working and strengthening your abs and obliques!. Your pirouettes will just have to wait because, most likely your balance will be different after your surgery!. If you can do 6, then getting back to it won't be a problem and it won't take that long!. You will learn the meaning of patience - it is an important part of being a dancer!. It was one of the things that almost all my teachers are trying to instill in me!. Just got to listen to your body!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

pilates, aerobics (not step, mind you), swimming/water aerobics!.!.!.etc
mainly, you can't worry about gaining weight because you will!. take a few work shops over the summer that will let you mark combinations or use the bar to help so that you can still focus on dancing!. main issue: don't push it!! 1 year is a while, but it could be even longer if you push too hard to stay the dancer you are now!. best of luck!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm a dancer too!. I am 12 and I get hurt a lot!. Try doing everything you can without feeling pain!. Remember he RICE (rest, ice, compress, elevate)!. Do pilates!. Exercises like doing the splits on a soft place, low impact!. Swimming is great!. Do simple strength exercises!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Definitely Pilates will work, it is very tough so watch out!. It should also work well for you considering you just don't have to work out the one leg that is injured!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Pilates and swimming!.
