Question: Can both people lead in a dance!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Yes, two people can lead in dance, but that it not possible in duet dancing like ballroom dancing, or they'd be stumbling all over each other!.

For both people to lead, it must be something competitive like breakdancing where two people are inside a competitive circle wth spectators surrounding!. Although both do not lead at any given moment, they trade off leading every few seconds to "one up" the other one until the competitive match is complete!. Such a competition may be called "uprocking", "battling", "dancing off", etc!., and is generally spontaneous between two rivals who wish to "wow" a crowd or compete for turf!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

especially in argentine tanggo, mostly the man leads, but there are opportunities for a woman's lead, where the woman signals a temporary takeover, performs a shoeshine or gancho, then releases the lead again!.
And also, the woman can warn her partner about people right behind the man if she feels they are too close!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In typical partner dances like the ballroom group, there has to be one person leading!. Otherwise they'll each go their own way, and that defeats the purpose!. There are minor exceptions: If you note in Standard ballroom, the lady's looking past the man's right shoulder!. One of the reasons for this is that she can signal when a crash is imminent behind him!. And I've been in more than one performance when I got lost and my partner back-led me until I got my head back on straight!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
