Question: Is anyone here a professional choreographer!?
Hi!

In 2 weeks, I'm going to New York to start working as a professional choreographer with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company!. I'm just wondering what it is like on a day to day basis being a choreographer!? And is it easy to find work with dancers!? Do they come to your company, or do you go to them!? I have so many questions, and I do plan to ask them when I meet them in 2 weeks, but I'd just like to hear from someone in the business!.

Thanks!

Well, congratulations! I am a professional choreographer and I can tell you that it is hectic! Somedays you will be work free for most of the day and some days you won't even have time to eat! Ask the company, they should be able to tell you what to expect!. It can be hard to find work!. You usually will have them come to you, but you can go to them if you are interested!. You can say something like "I am currently working with Alvin Ailey Dance Company, and I am looking to choreograph some dances!. Here is my information if something comes along!." If they say they need someone then great!. Most of the time they will ask you questions, blah blah, the whole nine yards!. So ask them your questions too as I don't work for them so I don't know their company policy!

GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATULATIONS!Www@QuestionHome@Com
