Position:Home>Dancing> My dance teacher doesn't like me, what should I do?

Question: My dance teacher doesn't like me, what should I do!?
I have this one dance teacher who doesn't seem to like me!. I have no idea why!. She always picks my style apart and wants a more ballet look from me, but I'm a jazz girl!. I happen to be very graceful but sharp and it's just a different style then she goes for I guess!. Issue is that she is the one I need to choose me for a show after an audition in the Fall to be in her jazz dance!. I don't know what to do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you should try to get on her good side!. Make sure you're working especially hard in her class!. You should definitely keep dancing with your own style though, it's what makes you unique as a dancer!. And chances are, dancing in a different way wouldn't look as good!. So like I said, work hard, and also be extra nice to her, lol!. Not a suck-up, just nice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

She's probably just trying to challenge you!. That's what all of my ballets teacher do!. The reason she probably want more ballet from you is because she wants you to get EVEN BETTER!. Dont say anything because she probably wouldnt want what she considers a "brat" for talking back in her jazz dance next year!. GOOD LUCK! <3Www@QuestionHome@Com

To be honest, I know how you feel because my dance teacher does not like me neither!.!.!. but i really do think, you should tell her clearly that you don't want more ballet steps on!. Stand for you rights =) I know it will be hard, but there's no point doing something you don't enjoy right!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

First of all, try to listen to her and see whether you can make improvements on your part!. Maybe she's really trying to help you!. On the other hand if she's really picking on you, just be yourself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try spending some time with her after class going over your mistakes!. once she realize that your trying, she will be more eager to help you improve!. Good Luck!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi! i'm a ballet teacher and former ballerina!. Of course a teacher can't feel the same about all her students!. Still the most im portant for me in my class - is to see a students that really works!. I would suggest you to go everyday to your class and work really hard not for the teacher, but for you!. This will serve you, because you'll surely progress and help your teacher admit your passion for dance, then whe'll be better with you!.
Now about what you said you're a jazz girl!. A ballet dancer is a dancing doll, that a choreographer put on her clothes, movements, emotions !.!. one day you're Gizelle and the other jazzy!. It happened to me to dance a role that were completely opposite to me, still i was proffesional!. In the class try to be gray and colourless and let youtr tecnique speak for you!!!!

Good luck!!!!!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Now, I'm not going to be nice or sugar-coat things for you!. I'm going to be honest, just to let you know beforehand!.
Basically, your teacher is in the right and you are in the wrong in this situation!. A choreographer/teacher has both the ability and authority to control EVERYTHING about EVERY one of her dancers!. If she wants you to change your style(one that you have some nerve for boasting about) then you have to change it, at least in her dances!. Of course, you don't have to change it for things that you or others control, like your own dances or other rehearsals, but you have to listen to her when you're under her control!. What you need to do is exactly what she has!. She doesn't care that you're a jazz girl, and she won't treat you any different!. She expects the same results from any one of her dancers, despite their background, preference, or "style"!. She has every right to do this!.
Here's the summation:
The dancer is the puppet!. The teacher is the puppetmaster!. Puppets don't talk back, they don't blame their teachers for their faults, and they don't boast their styles because they shouldn't have one!. At least, they shouldn't have one while the puppetmaster's around!.
Sorry if that sounded too harsh!. Good luck!
