Question: Dance question: which way is correct!?

i dance and one of my teachers says devloppe "dev-el-up-ay" and another says "dev-ol-pay"!. one has 2 syllables and the other has 3 syllables!. which is the right one!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

In traditional French speaking, "dev-el-up-ay" is correct!. If you notice, the word developpé is spelled pretty much phonetically!. "dev-ol-pay" is the American adaptation on the word!. If you notice, it is usually this way for Romantic languages converted to English!. For example, in Spanish, they say "chocolate" like "cho-co-lat-tay"!. In English, we say it "choc-lat"!. It's not wrong, it's just an English way of saying it!. But traditionally, it's "dev-el-up-ay"!.

well the way that i kno it is eith "dev el up ay" or "dev lop ay" but your teacher that says it "dev ol pay" may have been taught from a different school than your teacher who says "dev el up ay"!. The first way of saying it is more Americanized than the second which maybe more russian, french, or italian depending what school she or he was taught in!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think either is wrong!. one of my dance teachers says dev-lo-pay, and she has an American accent!. My other dance teacher says dev-el-o-pay and has a Brazilian/Portugese/some other nationality accent!. I know, wierd, but he speaks about 7 languages, lol!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the question should actually be, whether it's 3 or 4 syllables!.
the word is french in origin!.
if you heard French people saying it, you would only hear 3 syllables!.
but you can say it both ways (with three or four)!.
