Question: Is there anything I can do to eliminate the dizziness from doing fast turns in ballroom!?
I know that I have to "spot" my partner, but even with that I still get dizzy!. I'm just not used to it and I'm a beginner ballroom dancer - only been dancing since January!.
Is it just a matter of practice!? My instructor and I have a fast swing showcase to do at the end of May and there are several fast turns in there and I'd like to get myself ready for that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you're already focusing on the one "spot" (in this case, your partner - although I usually looked at a spot on the wall), the rest is really just practise!. You will eventually get used to it!. When I first started out , I found turns quite dizzying (especially in the Viennese Waltz), but eventually the sensation just went away!.

Pick a spot on the wall or an object across the room and keep your gaze as fixed on it as you can!. When you finish a spin and see it there again, it will help you feel balanced!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Spotting helps a little, but it's something you just get used to!. It won't happen often after another few months, until you start Viennese Waltz, at which point you'll get to go through the whole thing over again!. If it's a huge problem in a couple of spots, your instructor could alter the choreography to "unwind" you after the problem areas!.
also, I may have misread the way you wrote your question!. You have to spot on a distant object!. If you're spotting on your partner, your head's out of position and spotting close makes the dizziness worse than not spotting at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yeah you just gotta practice spotting!. i'm a hip hop dancer so i don't really have any experience with quick turns and stuff but my friends that take ballet always spot when they practice turns and stuff and they say it really helps!. i guess the better you get at spotting, the less dizzy you get!. try asking your instructer for help!.

best of luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

also concentrate on your partner's shoulders instead of the background, and have turns going in opposite directions so as not to get completely drunk!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
