I'll tell you for both male and female, just in case you were wondering for both!.

Female:

Height -- 5 ft 2 inch!. to 5ft 8 inch!.
Weight -- 85-115 lbs
Long neck in proportion to rest of body
Small bust
Narrow hips
Small posterior
Slim thighs that appear to be about the same width as the calves
Thin ankles and long feet
Small head
Slightly sloping shoulders that are wider than hips
Straight back and slim waistline, with torso neither too long nor too short in proportion to rest of body
Long arms and hands
Long, straight legs with slight hyper-extension and minimal visible muscular bulk
Well-arched foot with toes approximately the same length
Natural "turn-out"
Long achilles tendon for deep demi-pliƩ
Flexible lower back for arabesques and backbends
Well-stretched hamstrings for high extension
Squared-off toes for better distribution of the weight en pointe!.

Male:
Height -- 5 ft 9 inch!. to 6 ft 2 inch!.
Weight -- 135-165 lbs
Straight back and slim waistline
Narrow hips
Small posterior
Thigh muscles slightly larger than the calves
Straight legs
Average head with long neck in proportion to rest of body
Wide shoulders, without overly developed trapezius muscles
Torso neither long nor short in proportion to rest of body
Long arms and hands
Leg muscles not overly bulky
Long, moderately arched feet

Although these are ideal measurements, if you're a good enough dancer, it won't matter too much!. Unless your measurements are unacceptable!.

I recommend buying the book "Classical Ballet Technique" by Gretchen Ward Warren!. This was the best investment in a book I have ever made!. It's a fantastic book with combinations, step-by-step instructions for steps, good vs!. bad pictures, combinations, and so much more!. I highly recommend it!.

? Hope I helped and good luck! ?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Those are looking for 5'6" ideally, long legs, lean, KILLER feet, small head!. Odd, I know!

Think about this though!. Yes, the prestige of saying, I dance for ABT is great but you'll likely be in the corp de ballet your whole life!. YUCK!

If you dance for a less prestigious company you may be able to become a principle some day!. Whatever you do, start with summer intensives to see if you even like the company!. I know ABTs and New York Cities intensives create wonderful dancers!. Anyway, during these summer programs you can get a good feel for what they're looking for!. They accept people that they can mold into the future members of their company!. From these programs they take apprentices and from an apprenticeship you gain acceptance to the company!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Companies do not just look at your body proportions! They look for good, clean technique, strength, flexibility, ease of movement, musicality, good arms, stage presence, indivudual style, and solid turns and jumps!. My modern teacher and former student at my dance studio almost went pro before she decided to go into modern instead of ballet!. She is NOT by any means the ideal ballet body type, but because of her amazing technique and indivuduality, companies expressed a lot of interest in her!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
