They may be very confortable, but for a lot of dancing you need to be up on the balls of your feet, and even a small heel will be better for that!.
I personally like my character dance shoes with Cuban heels the best, you can decorate them up yourself if you get canvas ones!. They are more comfortable than any other shoe I have tried!. And I have been using my pair for more than 6 years now, and they are still in one piece!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Those are called jazz shoes!.
You can find them on http://www!.discountdancesupply!.com or http://www!.allaboutdance!.com
But I don't recommend those for ballroom as a long-term solution!. They may look comfortable for beginners, but if you want your dancing to improve anywhere beyond beginner level you should get proper ballroom shoes!. A proper ballroom shoe has a heel and a shank!. You need those to place your weight correctly for this dance style!. Check http://www!.featherdanceshoes for cheaper "introductory" ballroom type of shoes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The last thing you need are flat shoes - sorry ballroom and latin dance are desgined to be danced with heels - 2" is fine but 21/2" are standard for most competition dancers!. If you are doing both standard (waltz, foxtrot, tango, quickstep,vw) and latin (cha, rhumba, jive, paso, samba) you will eventually need a shoe for each but start with a pair of ballroom shoes and see how you go!. you may find you get sore calves to start off with but to be honest you are wasting your money on classes if you dont have the proper shoes: jazz sneakers are great - but for jazz! Those are jazz shoes - BUT they are totally wrong for ballroom dancing!. yes they slide around well, but sliding is a very small part in Ballrooms, except when you're a showdancer!.

Ballroom shoes for ladies - closed toe, satin outer, with a two inch heel, pigs leather soles!.
Latin - Get yourself a 2 1/2 inch, roman heel heel, with a spider t-bar strap!.

That's it!. I don't let my students buy anything else for ballrooms or latins!. The right shoes for the right dance!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
